Meet Annie Raine, our inspiring English and Maths Tutor here at Hair at The Academy. Annie’s role is all about nurturing confidence and unlocking potential in learners who may have struggled with traditional education. Whether she’s supporting students with functional skills, helping them prepare for exams, or simply making numbers and grammar feel less intimidating, Annie brings warmth, patience, and decades of experience to every lesson.
Before joining Hair at The Academy, Annie spent 12 years teaching in East London primary schools, followed by an incredible 26 years working in adult education across Devon. Her journey with Learn Devon saw her take on a variety of roles, always focused on empowering learners and making education accessible. Though she recently retired, Annie couldn’t resist the pull of the classroom and is thrilled to be returning to her original passion—teaching.
So, why did Annie choose Hair at The Academy? Having seen the transformative impact of vocational education, she was drawn to the Academy’s inclusive ethos and its commitment to helping every student thrive. Annie said –
“There’s something truly special about this place. The team here genuinely care, and you can feel that in every corner of the building. It’s a joy to be part of it.”
Now, let’s talk about Annie’s favourite part of her job. She absolutely loves watching students grow in confidence—especially those who arrive feeling unsure about their abilities. Seeing them progress, pass their exams, and realise they’re capable of so much more is what makes it all worthwhile.
When it comes to the students at Hair At The Academy, Annie describes them as resilient, curious, kind, and full of potential. She added –
“It’s a great atmosphere. Everyone lifts each other up, and that sense of belonging makes all the difference.”
Outside of teaching, Annie enjoys spending time in her garden and with her three grown-up children. She’s proof that learning never stops—and that passion, purpose, and watching things bloom can take you a long way.
