INTRODUCTION
During this unit you will develop an understanding of how the hair and beauty industry works. You will explore both industries looking at the different types of salon, the main treatments and services offered in hairdressing and beauty therapy, the different types of job roles, and the type of career opportunities available in the hair and beauty sector.
This unit is suitable for all practitioners.
For the purposes of this unit the generic term of practitioner has been used to the incorporate the following roles: Barber, Beauty therapist, Complementary therapist, Hairdresser, Make-up, Massage therapist, Nail technician.
What will this unit cover?
- Different job roles within the hair and beauty industry
- Hairdressing and beauty career paths
- Different types of salons
- The main hairdressing and beauty services offered by salons.
After completing this unit you will:
1. Know the career opportunities within the hair and beauty sector
2. Know the main hairdressing services and beauty treatments.

When you train and qualify in hairdressing or beauty therapy, you will normally work up a career ladder. When you are newly qualified you will start as junior staff, as you gain more experience and confidence you may progress to being a senior staff member.
